The
Global Education Club
There
were several months in the middle of the year where the club was inactive, due
to Teacher's strike, and cessation of voluntary services. But there were some
activities before and after that.
Accomplishments:
- $35
donation from phone
book recycling to a children's hospital
- For
UN Peace Day school students drew posters of our "Dream for the
Planet", post September 11. The posters went to an international
development conference in Spain.
- $138 was donated to Canadian Red Cross from a
Used Book Sale, for assistance of Trade Tower victims' families and
Afghanistan children
- 40 pairs of used eyeglasses were collected and sent to
needing people in other countries
- Student
Feden encouraged us to have a bake sale, with $20
donated to World Vision
- Recycling funds were donated: $25 to Children's Wish
Foundation, $25 to the local Baptist Church Soup Kitchen, $25 to the Marmot
Recovery Fund, $25 to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, and $12 to the
Canadian Peace Alliance
- We encouraged discussion, letter writing, and petitions
in regards to the Kyoto Agreement. It was the first that many school members
had heard of the Agreement, and a lot of lively discussion and research
occurred.
Other
school projects:
- Teacher Charlie Schrama coordinated our annual Terry
Fox walk, and we raised $725 for cancer research
- French Immersion donated $53 from recycling to Canadian
Red Cross for 9/11 relief.
- Two students from 3K donated teddy bears to children in
New York affected by 9/11
