Global Club Accomplishments
This year they helped:
sell chips and raised $40 for the Salvation Army homeless shelter for Christmas.
the school collect over 2500 items for the Food Bank for World Food Day in October.
raise $115.20 for the CNIB (for Braille books) and for CODE (helping with literacy around the world) through their Used Book Sale
raffle off the contents of a candy jar, to raise funds to buy chickens and
medicine with World Vision, for a family in another country.

sell snacks to raise $67 for Doctors Without Borders
raise $123 for Operation Smile with a second Used Book Sale
They also:
sponsored activities celebrating Earth Day.
had a visit from a Unicef representative to discuss how Unicef helps children around the world.
learned about Islam, and the holiday of Eid.
had our annual face painting exercise for Anti-Racism Day in March.
donated the $30 that would have been spent on year end medals to the Tarahumara Children's Hospital
Fund. This helps supply food, wells, and medical care to the 60,000 Tarahumara
indigenous people living in Mexico's Copper Canyon.
Recycling
3K
raised $62.50 for the Boys and Girls Club in Saphire Blundon's memory
Mrs. Kontuk's Grade 1 class donated the $75 to World Vision for food for a family in another country for Christmas.
Julie McDonnell recycled and the funds went toward her trip to Quebec with the Travel Club.
The Global Club raised $42.50 to help endangered Vancouver Island marmots.
Mrs. Neumann's grade 4 class raised $60 for the Baptist Church Soup Kitchen.
Ms Cochrane's Grade 3K class
3K raised $200 through selling wrist
bands to help improve Child Labour conditions throughout the world. They also
wrote letters to the Prime Ministers of Canada and India requesting that Child
Labour laws be made and followed around the world, and suggesting that imported
items have labels indicating that they have been made in places where adults and
children have been treated well.

They celebrated Chinese New Years (with Kevin), Eid, Egypt & Arabic (with Aya), Hannukah (with Maquire) and learned about India (with Teja). They also had a presentation on India from Indira, and on Columbian music and salsa dancing with guitarist Pablo.
The Save Endangered Animals Club, 5 students from 3K, held an Easter raffle. The $190 in proceeds went to Nature Canada. Their class helped out by researching endangered animals and making posters.
3K had an African Market, inviting grade 2 and 3 students to experience an international market, complete with bartering and tropical fruits. They raised $57.70 for CPAR, to plant trees in Africa.
3K sorted and counted the $1,200 brought in by students through Halloween coin boxes.
They wrote letters to 4 government officials requesting that cancer in Fort
Chipweyan be addressed. The water is contaminated from an old Uranium mine at
the other end of their lake. Their letters were passed on to other government
officials, and we received a dozen replies, all stating that there is no problem
and that nothing can be done, but that it was nice to get their letters.
Other School Kindness Efforts
In the wake of
Hurricane Katrina, Carol Marcellus and her class organized a Tree of Hope. $2084
was raised for Red Cross.
Fay Durocher organized Pennies For Pets to help animals stranded because of Hurricane Katrina.
In October the Grade 4 students helped in a tree planting project through Energy in Action, coordinated by Mrs. Rushdy with watering done by Mrs. Doblanko.
Staff had their annual goods and services auction following a chili lunch for United Way by Margie. $1750 was raised.
Lynn Neumann and a staff team raised $1196 toward for breast cancer research during a Pink Ribbon Walk.
Staff raised funds through a curry lunch for a citizen needing medical support in Edmonton.
At Christmas, the students and parents of 4K made cards and donated many items to the Salvation Army to fill stockings for the homeless.
District librarians
raised funds for over 400 books for Santa's Anonymous through the Loonies for
Literacy campaign. 
Jump Rope for Heart, coordinated by Lorraine Proudfoot raised $22,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and raised awareness of exercise and health for all our students.
Marilyn Fedoritz and her Kids For Cops raised $400 more towards a memorial park in memory of 4 slain R.C.M.P. officers.
Mrs. Doblanko coordinated a Milk Jug Recycling contest. Our school brought in 1,427 swished and squished jugs and earned $200.
Mrs. Marcellus organized WATER DAY. They raised $326.20 for the Pakistan Relief Fund for survivors of the January earthquake. Students brought water to school and donated the amount they would have spent on pop or juice.
